Alternative Shopping Places
The alternative shopping place section will provide you with certain information from local knowledge to hunt specific product with cheaper price. However, We strongly suggest you should bring a trustable local if you want to hunt the product in these special places, or else you might ended up got scammed there.
1. Glodok – North Jakarta.
If you want to hunt cheaper electronic products such as TV, sound system, Household and stuff you can check this place. The price is relatively cheaper than the mall because their location is near the harbor. All prices here is negotiable but if you bring local who can negotiate well you will most likely get a cheaper price. However, unless you want to buy more than one product that also being sold in malls, We suggest you just go for the mall instead of Glodok as the transportation, delivery cost and etc will cost you equal if you go to Glodok and only purchase one product.
2. Taman Puring – Mayestik, Kebayoran Baru – South Jakarta.
It is a place to go for hunting product such as shoes, bag, and car sound system. We should warn you this area is severely not comfortable especially for foreigner. The prices are also very cheap and negotiable. You can find many branded shoes here but in rejected condition or lower quality. You better be with local if you want to visit this place.
3. Mangga dua – North Jakarta
This area is located near Glodok location but its allotment is more like computer and stuff. Just like Ratu Plaza but in much cheaper price. Other than that, Mangga dua also has a famous clothing district which has a very cheap price on products that being sold here and even some of the products here are actually being resold at malls with a higher price.
4. Pasar Rumput – Jatinegara – Center Jakarta
This place is a go to destination if you want to look for sanitation product. Most of the products that are being sold here is used product or recycled product. Other than sanitary product, this market is also selling cheap bicycle and its tools. The entire price is remarkably cheap, you just have to know how to negotiate with them in the modest and reasonable way.
5. Pasar Uler – Sunter – East Jakarta
The market is selling miscellaneous international branded products such as clothing, wallet, bag etc. The price is all negotiable and very cheap. The seller claimed that the product is a rejected product or directly brought from nearby port. But is not a secure place to go especially if you go there without a local companion. If you want to go there be sure to bring only adequate amount of money and be sure to take a local with you.
6. Surabaya Street – Menteng – Center Jakarta
Surabaya Street is a famous destination for foreigner and tourists. The street is full of antique, craft and Indonesian’s art seller. They are all familiar with foreigner so if you go alone it won’t be a problem. However, it is wise to bring a local for more effective negotiation.
